Cancer awareness events: Answer Cancer Grant - 2024
We were privileged to have been awarded £2000 from Answer Cancer to increase cancer awareness in the community. We used the grant to do the following three events:
Event 1. 1st September 2024 Tameside at Shree Ram mandir - religious event for Anmol Cancer support Group where we collaborated for our groups to engage in a religious ceremony with 25 members participating. It was a bonding exercise and gave confidence to the group members to work together for our project. 40 or more members of public visited the temple and after the ceremony discussion took place about raising awareness of screening cancer by us British Sanatan Doctor’s forum and Anmol Cancer Support Group. – .
Event 2 : 29th September 2024 at Shree Jain Samaj – Manchester – Day’s full event to raise awareness of Bowel cancer, Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer and Cervical Cancer. The event was attended by 41 females and 24 males (65 people) with 7 members younger than 50. Initially Bowel cancer talk was attended by all members and then the group split into two separate rooms for Prostate and Breast Cancer. Breast Cancer event was very interactive and delivered in Gujarati and English. A lot of positive feedback from the ladies was received. .
Event 3 – 8th December 2024 Karaoke live music event supported by local Indian musician who picked up music after 5 years of loosing a family member in cancer. This event became a very popular event as all the spaces got filled very quickly within 2 days of being advertised. 60 people attended the event.Very informal but very interactive engagement with the audience took place regarding cancer. People expressed the difficulties and barriers of attending and engaging cancer related activities. There was a separate cervical cancer discussion for cervical screening.
Health checks events in Jain Samaj - 2025
We offered a mini health check up event at the Jain Samaj Temple for any member of the public to attend. Health check up event included measurement of weight, BMI, waist circumference, body fat estimation, blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and urine testing. 71 individuals from the community participated in this drop-in clinic. The feedback received was excellent.
Cancer awareness talk in Ashton -Under -Lyne- 2025
BSDF Participated in Cancer Awareness event by giving a talk on cancer diagnosis and beyond.
Hindu - Sanatan Mandir space in Liverpool hospitals - 2024
BSDF supported establishment of Hindu Sanatan prayer space in Liverpool Women's hospital and currently working on establishing them in other hospitals in Liverpool.
